|breathesgelatin||02:07 am - Hello?|
This community sort of up and died. Anyone still out there?
What's new on campus? I was back about a week ago to give a talk. How is the news of the new President hitting home?

|justthatgood||11:41 am - "Substance Free"|
I'm filling out my room assignment sheet and the description of substance free housing is really vague - restricting "other lifestyle choices". All dorms ban smoking and drinking. What is the real differance between substance free and regular? I was hoping you all could give me some insight.

|breathesgelatin||05:16 pm - Friendly hi from your moderator!|
Hi! I'm happy to see that the community has become so active, particularly among the incoming Class of 2009! woo!
Anyway, I updated the userinfo a bit and also wanted to remind you that if you have any problems with the community or need to report any trouble, kjs and I are the moderators. Between the two of us we span the gamut of W&L, basically. :)
I gave my very last tour of campus today--I'm a campus tourguide and have been since I was a freshman. It was a really bittersweet experience, to realize that this part of my life is closing and that I'll soon be an alumna of W&L. Honestly, my four years here have been a total rollercoaster but I know that got the absolute best preparation for grad school that I possibly could have gotten. I'm confident that wherever I ultimately end up next year (arg... if only I could decide!) that I'll be able to handle the workload. I've also made some lifelong friends here. Some aspects of the school can be frustrating at times, yes, but overall--I love this place. :)
Anyway, welcome all! I'm glad you're here! When I started this community I was worried it would fizzle, but I'm glad it's taken off.
Now... back to my thesis!

hey so i was just accepted to washington and lee, and although i really would love a small school, w&l is a tad bit smaller than my high school. do you ever feel suffocated by how small it is? also, as beatufiul as lexington is, is there much surrounding it? i've gone to visit once but i didn't pay enough attention to what was near the campus.

Hello, I'm new to this community and am a high school junior currently considering (falling in love with) Washington and Lee.
I've been getting ridiculous numbers of letters from Washington and Lee for about a year now (through the information I provided on the PSAT, no doubt), but recently my interest has really grown to the point of it becoming my first choice college.
I hope it's not inappropriate for me to ask questions of current (or even future students), here. There are a good number of reasons I'm attracted to WLU, but I also have some concerns.
What are average SAT or ACT scores at the school? What sorts and what numbers of extracurriculars are needed to get into a college such as this (not that I'm suggesting there's a fixed number, but what were some of you current students involved in in high school)? Average high school GPA? Class rank? The list goes on. I'm not a stellar student (probably only in the top 20% of my class with a 3.87 GPA) and am involved in only a moderate number of extracurriculars and no sports, and before I dive whole-heartedly into this, I want to know that it's achievable.
I love the idea of the honor system because while most private colleges have them, none of them seem to put an emphasis on the system at all. How big of a deal is the system, really? (i.e. Are they overemphasizing it in the letters I'm receiving on a monthly basis?)
Looking over statistics on the Princeton Review, I'm also mildly troubled by the fact that it looks like something of a party college. Is that label true or false and to what degree?
Campus and community-wise, what is it that makes WLU different from other small, private colleges?
What has been your experience with the financial aid program?
Thank you in advance to anyone who can help answer these questions.

|dima343||05:42 pm - How's the weather down there?|
I know it's kind of a stupid question to ask but we just got close to two feet of snow here in New York and I would really miss it.
Do you get snow down in Lexington?

I just joined and wanted to say hello! I too am a prospective W&L student for next year. I'm hoping and praying that I will be a GW finalist, but if not I will hopefully get the letter I want in April! I live in Southern California, but I fell in love with W&L when I visited last Spring Break.
